Introduction

State Archaeological Museum Bhopal

The State Archaeological Museum of Bhopal holds a significant place among the monuments and museums of Bhopal. The museum is the miniature form of the rich traditions of the state. The important things to watch are paintings of different schools, statues of the Hindu Goddess of Wealth also called as Lakshmi, and magnificent statues of Buddha.

This particular museum was established in the year 1964 and remains the most significant of all the other museums and galleries of the town.

The museum houses a gamut of splendid tribal handicrafts, musical instruments, bronze objects belonging to the 12th century and much more. Images of the Hindu deities such as Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva and the fine sculptures of the Khajuraho amorous couple are worth the mention. The various sculptures that the museum has are collected from the various parts of the state.

The museum is open to the public from 10 am to 5 pm except on the Government holidays and on Mondays.
